East Boston: Club Debuts New Baking Program

East Boston's New Baking Program

By Bro. Bob Metell, SDB

(East Boston, MA – October 23) – October has just begun, and it is already ending! This week, I wish to discuss a new and exciting program at the Salesian Boys and Girls Club. Last week, we began our baking class program. It is a partnership with local chefs and bakers, who come to the club on Wednesday afternoons to teach the club members how to bake cakes and other sweets. The youngsters package and sell the cupcakes and baked products to raise money to purchase their baking supplies. We have a sizable number of club members who are interested in culinary arts. At an early age, they develop good cooking and baking skills. In the galley, I have watched them cook meals and bake and decorate cakes, cookies, and brownies. I have a dedicated group of 10-11-year-olds who help me in the galley during mealtimes.

That is it for this week; stay tuned for more updates on amazing and exciting activities and events. After the past few weeks’ articles about our food activities, I hope you do not think all we do here is eat!
