FLORIDA: DRAFT DAY IN TAMPA

CRT draft day

Story and photos by Lili DeGrasse

(Tampa – September 11) – Draft Day? What is Draft Day? At Cristo Rey Tampa High School at Mary Help of Christians Center, it’s the day when students are paired up with their Corporate Work Study Partner companies – the day they learn who has “drafted” them to join their team.

This year’s Draft Day was Tuesday, September 4. The job teams were revealed to Cristo Rey Tampa students in “NFL draft” style. Students were called to the stage amid much cheering and joy to meet their new CWSP teammate(s). Faculty dressed as referees, and students waved pom-poms and filled the gymnasium with confetti. CWSP partners cheered them on. There was much excitement in the air.

That very day, work began. Some students went to class, others boarded a CRT bus to head straight for the office. Our 64 new CRT students have now begun to build their professional work experience/resumés and prepare for college!
