EVOLUTION OF THE PROVINCE NEWSLETTER ENTERS A NEW ERA

Salesian News

New Rochelle, N.Y. – They say “change is good.” If that’s true, there are some good things happening through the province communications office. The province news will be made available through a variety of social media so that it will reach everyone in a format with which they are comfortable.

The first province newsletter was published on September 24, 1975. It consisted of 16 pages, typed text in black on plain paper. On the cover page was the title “New Rochelle Province Newsletter.” Issues appeared every two months.

On October 6, 1976, with volume 2, number 1, the masthead was changed to “Service Newsletter.” From then on it appeared four times each year. While it was still black typed text, the paper used was a textured off white color.

From then on, improvements were made over the years. The masthead changed shape, glossy paper was used and it appeared in two colors during the late 1990s when it was printed by Bro. Bruno Bussatto at Don Bosco Technical School in Paterson, N.J.

On July 17, 2003, the masthead was changed to read “E-Service”, and the numbering started over with Vol.1, No. 1. Since then the newsletter appeared on a weekly basis as a PDF file which was attached to an e-mail message.

Beginning today, province news is spread through the use of the media of our times. People get their news through Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter  and a host of other forms. So the province is taking advantage of all these methods.

With today’s e-mail message from the province communications office, readers will be directed to the province website , www.salesians.org, which has been redesigned to take advantage of all possibilities. The weekly e-mail message from the province communications office will include links to vital stories about events in the USA and Canada.
