This week, please keep in your prayers Salesian Lay Missioner Katie Jewel Braun and all those she is serving. Katie was commissioned for service at Don Bosco School Teuk Thla in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Her hometown is Palm Bay, Fla., and she is an alumna of University of Central Florida.
What do you expect to do on mission?
“Whatever the Lord asks!! Right now, the expectation is to teach English to some extent in either of the FMA schools or vocational schools. Also, helping wherever the sisters need, and spending time with youths after school playing, dancing, and in other programs.”
Why have you joined the Salesian Lay Missioner program and/or what do you hope to accomplish thru your SLM mission?
“Jesus lived in a way that drew us to him. He shared life with us: he agonized, wept for a friend, loved his mom, reclined at table, and went fishing! He approached us in a way of total loving and then pointed us to the Father. He wanted union with him and the Father in heaven forever. I want to do the same. I want to make heaven approachable by sharing life with the people of Cambodia: cry and laugh with them, tell them about my family, enjoy recreation, and live life with them. I want to do all this in love as Jesus did and point it all back to God so they can approach the faith as they are in their lives. I want to put a name to the desires in their hearts—heaven!”
