(Tampa, Fla. – May 4) – On May 1, Cristo Rey Tampa High School president Charles Imbergamo announced the appointment of Matthew J. Torano to the position of principal, effective July 1, 2018.
As the principal, Mr. Torano will be responsible for the instructional leadership of faculty and students, support high-quality teaching and learning, and ensure the integration of day-to-day school operations owith the goals of the Cristo Rey Network.
Mr. Torano was born in Tampa, with family roots in Ybor City. He brings 12 years of experience in the education and has been a champion for students, committed to inspiring their intellectual growth. His passion is educating students to fulfill their potential and he believes, “a school should be a pillar within the community.”
Mr. Torano began his teaching career in 2007 in the Hillsborough County public schools and has taught in both standard and charter schools. Since 2014 he has been principal of Community Charter School of Excellence in 2014. Under his leadership, the school has grown, expanded into new facilities, and increased in academic achievement.
Mr. Torano has also been an active member of the Charter School Leaders of Hillsborough County and twice been elected as treasurer.
Mr. Torano graduated from Gaither High School and went on to graduate from the University of Florida, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. He attained his Master of Educational Leadership from Florida State University.
