(East Boston, MA – August 13) – The summer is steamrolling by! It is hard to believe this week is week six of the Salesian Boys and Girls Club’s summer camp, with the theme of “Olympic Week.” Next week, I will report on the Olympic Week events and winners.
Boston Scores (Scores) is one of the Club’s partners. It is an affiliate of U.S. Soccer and the national soccer organization that promotes youth soccer. Boston Scores, like the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Don Bosco's charism, reaches out to needy youths and provides them with a positive environment to have fun and be successful.
This summer, the Club and Scores operated camps for needy youths from the greater East Boston area. I had the pleasure of collaborating with both camps through our meal program. I was able to spend time getting to know the campers while they were in the lunch line or snack area.
Boston Scores operates programs in two broad areas:
- School-based programs and
- Community-based programs.
It is open to youngsters in grades K-12 and centers on soccer and out-of-school enrichment activities. Like the Club, Scores offers programs for youths who may not participate in soccer and other sports due to financial barriers.
