Today marks the beginning of the Five-Week Plan for the Season of Creation. From today through Saturday, September 5, we celebrate creation through one simple and beautiful concept: we enjoy it.
How can we best accomplish this? As Fr. Savio Silveira, SDB, Provincial of Mumbai, India and Convener of the Don Bosco Green Alliance, mentioned last week, “This can be accomplished by taking a walk and putting ourselves in nature. You can also meditate while outside.”
Many within the Salesian Family enjoy creation on a daily basis. Some are even dedicated outdoorsmen who embark on nature trips many times throughout the year, such as Fr. Paul Chu, SDB.
“On Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, I went on a hiking and camping trip in the Catskills Mountains with 11 young men of the Frassati NYC group,” began Fr. Paul. “It was two wonderful days of intense climbing, faithful fellowship, and enjoying the beauty of nature together. Through sun and rain, Jesus walked with the 12 of us as we prayed, confessed, and celebrated Mass in the woods!”
What a wonderful way to enjoy creation! Fr. Paul’s hiking and camping trip serves as a model example of how we can enjoy creation. We hope and pray you, too, find a great way to enjoy creation today, this week, and always.
