Encouraging the Missionary Vocation

Encouraging The Missionary Vocation

By Amy Marinaro

October 1, 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the canonization of the first Salesian missionary martyrs, St. Louis Versiglia and St. Callistus Caravario.

St. Louis Versiglia was asked by Bl. Michael Rua to lead the first Salesian missionary expedition to China in 1906.

St. Callistus Caravario served in China as a missionary during the end of his years in formation and as a young priest until his and St. Louis Versiglia’s martyrdom in 1930.

On this anniversary, the Salesian family is invited to celebrate and encourage the missionary vocation and spirit of missionary discipleship among the young in the Province of St. Philip the Apostle.
