(East Boston, MA – August 29) – It is hard to believe summer camp at the Salesian Boys & Girls Club is almost over. It seems like we just began! Some of the local schools have opened, which means we will begin our regular school year program in a few weeks.
The last few weeks have been a time of fun and games along with wicked hot weather and rain. Yet, as the saying goes, “The show must go on!”
Next to gym and computers, one of our most popular activities is the arts & crafts program headed up by staff person Marie and assisted by Fr. Bill Bucciferro. Marie has taken the program from coloring sheets to making posters, decorative plates and images, small murals, and some weaving projects.
One of the many renovations to the club this year is our new basketball/soccer court. The club has partnered with Boston Scores, a local soccer training and skills development agency. They have expertise in teaching soccer and basketball skills to youth. During the winter, they will move the program into the newly renovated gym.
If I reported on all the faith and fun-filled activities of the summer, it would take 100 pages to list them all and volumes of photos. After a short break and rest and relaxation time, the club will reopen and will have many more exciting events to report on. Stay tuned!
