(Chicago, IL – January 29) – Two weeks ago, St. John Bosco-St. James Parish held its Annual Parish Leaders’ Retreat, in which 350 leaders participated.

The retreat began with a service consisting of worship and healing the night before. The themes were presented by Salesian priests in both English and Spanish. Frs. Tim Ploch and Jim Berning presented the Salesian strenna: “Anchored in hope, pilgrims with young people.” Then our director, Fr. Dave Sadjak, and I presented the theme of the Jubilee. Next, Fr. Kris Cepil presented: "How to Earn Indulgences in the Jubilee Year.” Our youth minister, Fr. Paul Chu, presented: "The Joy of the Gospel," and I also presented to the young people: "Renew My Church,” which is Cardinal Cupich's vision for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

After each presentation, we held small group reflections and allowed participants to express their thoughts and feelings about our parish community regarding the themes presented. Young people shared the challenges facing the unification of the former St. John Bosco and St. James the Apostle Parishes. We then shared moments of prayer and fellowship.
