“Think of Others” | How Fr. Enzo Celebrates His Consecrated Life

Fr. Enzo Trigatti, SDB

By Rosina Di Felice

On this World Day of Consecrated Life, we look at the life of Fr. Enzo Trigatti, SDB. We had the opportunity to speak with Fr. Enzo, who shared his thoughts on what gives him joy as a Salesian. Fr. Enzo attributes this joy to his love of Don Bosco, whom he describes as “a humble, charming and lovable priest led by the Holy Virgin and who was capable of achieving great things, all for the glory of God.” His joy also emanates from being immersed in the spirit of family present within the Salesian communities he has lived. He has also witnessed the exemplary life of many confreres, whom he views as true saints.

In his early stages of formation, Fr. Enzo recalled art, particularly 16 of the Constitution, and that Don Bosco wanted everyone to feel at home in his Salesian houses. Fr. Enzo learned that Salesian houses are a family where affection is mutual and the relationships are governed not so much by rulers, but by faith and the promptings of the heart. The other eloquent lesson that nourished his formation was an environment of piety, especially the devotion to the Holy Eucharist and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Among the youth, this witness can give rise to the desire to follow a Salesian vocation.

Fr. Enzo advises young adults today that, in order to have joy, strength, and perseverance in the spiritual life and in their personal vocation, they must continue to know Jesus again and again by living in His friendship. He also stresses the need to have a spiritual director. Fr. Enzo encourages the young to be devoted to Don Bosco, a wonderful role model, and to live his marvelous system, a real education in sanctity. Lastly, it is important to live in an environment of family within our Salesian communities filled with joy, serenity, mutual respect, and brotherly charity. Fr. Enzo counsels the youth of today, who live in this pandemic, to exercise prudence while living with serenity and great solidarity towards people who are sick, alone, or who need help. We must think of others, not ourselves.
