"To See the Face of God"

Carlos Lucito Pro Life Story

By Carlos Lucito, MATS, Archbishop Shaw High School, Marrero, LA

“To love another person is to see the face of God.” When I saw Les Miserables when it came out in theatres, this was a line that struck me because of the truth behind it. We are all made in God’s image and likeness, and being made in his image and likeness means being made in love and for love. The best example we see of love being lived out is Christ. He journeyed with outcasts, healed people, and forgave others, among many other things. Being pro-life is about seeing the face of God in everyone and knowing that we are created by love itself. When we lose sight of that fact, it is much easier to not practice love. If we practice and preach love, we will be able to learn how to forgive, and that is when we can learn to fight those injustices around us. We can understand that the unborn are human beings in the womb, that the person on death row is still a person, that people deserve the right to seek the basic necessities of life and find a place where they can attain them. Living a life of love can help us cultivate compassion to be able to help us live out our call to be pro-life and recognize the Creator in everyone we meet.
