(Port Chester, NY – May 20) – During the weekend of May 16-17, St. John Bosco Parish in Port Chester, NY, welcomed hundreds of parishioners, families, and visitors to experience María Auxiliadora: El Musical, an original Catholic musical production presented by the parish youth and Lucas 4-18 Producciones.

The musical was performed three times throughout the weekend, beginning after the Saturday evening Mass and continuing with two presentations on Sunday. Each performance united the parish community in a joyful celebration of faith, music, theater, and devotion to Mary Help of Christians during the month traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Inspired by Salesian spirituality and the maternal presence of Mary Help of Christians, the musical explored themes that many young people face today. These included anxiety, fear about the future, friendship, trust in God, and the importance of faith during difficult moments. Through original songs, acting, choreography, and heartfelt storytelling, the production shared a message of hope and reminded audiences that God and Mary accompany us through every stage of life.

What made the production especially meaningful was the involvement of the parish youths themselves. Teenagers and young adults dedicated months of rehearsals and preparation to bring the musical to life, using their artistic talents as a form of evangelization and community building.

Following the performances, the producers, Carolina Ramirez and Angie Espinosa, shared a message of gratitude to everyone who made the event possible:

“We still carry hearts full of joy and gratitude for everything we experienced during this beautiful musical. More than a play, it was an experience that united us as a family and allowed us to evangelize through music, theater, and the talents of our young people.”

They also thanked every child, young person, family member, volunteer, and supporter who contributed their time and effort to the project. They added that they hope the musical touched many hearts and helped bring people closer to Mary and Jesus.

Throughout the weekend, the parish community responded with enthusiasm and support, filling the gymnasium with applause, prayer, and encouragement for the young performers. The event reflected the Salesian spirit of joy, creativity, accompaniment, and youth leadership, which is so central to the mission of St. John Bosco.

As the Salesian Family prepares to celebrate the feast of Mary Help of Christians on May 24, the musical serves as a beautiful reminder of Mary’s loving presence and of the powerful ways young people can proclaim the Gospel through the arts.

“Todo para gloria de Dios.” (“Everything for the glory of God.”)

Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.
