JOURNEYING ON THE GOSPEL ROADS

New Rochelle group

(New Rochelle, N.Y. – July 23) – This summer three Gospel Roads I programs took place in the United States. From June 23 to June 30, thirty-six people gathered under the direction of Guilherme Lopes at St. Petersburg Catholic High School in St. Petersburg, Fla. From July 7 to July 14, thirty-eight people gathered under the direction of Genia Roper at Archbishop Shaw High School in New Orleans, La. From July 14 to July 21, twenty-eight people gathered under the direction of Andrew Jenkins at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, N.Y.

The Gospel Roads I program combines service with a retreat experience in order truly to instill and develop in each participant a personal ownership of the Catholic Church’s teachings on social justice. Throughout the program, Mass, Eucharistic adoration, lectio divina, small group sharing, large group sharing, and community-building opportunities are offered. Every day a different service opportunity is offered. Some of these opportunities included outreach to the homeless, the elderly, those with disabilities, and veterans. Through these experiences, participants are able to learn firsthand from those they work with the full meaning of journeying on the Gospel Roads.
