Edmonton: Lenten Mission at St. John Bosco Parish

Lenten Mission in Edmonton

By Rev. Dr. Adaikala Raja John, SDB

(Edmonton, AB – March 21) – At the beginning of March, St. John Bosco Parish hosted three evenings of Lenten Mission with guest speaker Mike Landry, Chaplain of Evergreen Catholic School District. Mike presented both in person and via live stream. The theme of Mike’s presentation was "Living in the Word of God," with a focus on the incredible gift God has given to everyone in Sacred Scripture: the Bible.

Each evening began with singing to place each participant in a reflective and spiritual mindset, and each evening ended with a song and prayer. Mike presented an overview of the major Biblical covenants to aid in the understanding of what is found in the scriptures. He also gave tips and ways on how to start to read the Bible and how to understand what was read.

The final evening was focused on praying with scripture including the experience of lectio divina within the context of Eucharistic Adoration. The participants were truly inspired and impressed with Mike’s expertise and passion for sharing the Word of God. Each person went home reflecting on what Pope Francis said, "These are two conditions in order to follow Jesus: to listen to the Word of God, and to put it into practice."
