Celebrating the Salesian Spirit with Sr. Ruth Del Pilar Mora, FMA

Sr. Ruth Pilar's Visit

By Sr. Boram Lee, FMA

(Marrero, LA – March 25) – The Salesian Sisters welcomed Sr. Ruth Del Pilar Mora, FMA, councilor for the missions of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Rome, for a canonical visitation from Sunday, March 15, through Wednesday, March 18. The visit offered a meaningful opportunity to witness how the Salesian charism continues to thrive in Marrero.

The visitation opened with a joyful welcome assembly at Academy of Our Lady (AOL), featuring a lively New Orleans–themed song and dance led by student council members, theater, and choir students. During her stay, Sr. Ruth met with each sister in the community and with student groups, which included the peer ministry group, the student council, and those students in the service learning class; she also met with our school leaders, as well as with archdiocesan officials.

A highlight for Sr. Ruth was learning about the activities of our service learning group. These students shared with her their year-long projects and the impact of these projects on the poor and needy; for example, the girls raised $1,500 to aid the children in need in Venezuela.

Her visit concluded with a joyful Salesian Family dinner on Tuesday, March 17, which united Salesians, community members, and supporters of the mission.
