CANADA: NEW HOME FOR EDMONTON SDBS TAKES SHAPE

By Fr. John Adaikala Raja, SDB, and Fr. Dennis Donovan, SDB

(Edmonton, Alta. – June 19) – The new residence for the Salesian community of Edmonton is rising really fast.  The basement is complete and has been inspected by the city authorities.  The framing has begun, and the main floor is complete.  They will complete the framing by the first week of July.  We will be deciding soon on the color of the interiors, exteriors, tiles, and carpets.

For the past decade, the community has been living in several condominiums and parish rectories.  The province reshaping plan of 2014 called for the community to come together in one house.  The community took charge of the project and developed a plan to raise the funds themselves.  The Salesian Society of Canada contributed $100,000 toward the down payment.  Construction started on May 31, 2018, and is expected to be completed by October.
