“Remain in my Word” (John 8:31)
The author of the First Letter of St. John assures us of God’s great gift, “God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:11-12).
God’s eternal life continues to be given to us in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is now present with us in each person, Scriptures, and the sacraments.
Moreover, the Son of God wants to give us this gift of eternal life. Thus He invites us to “remain in my Word” (John 8:31) (motto chosen for 2024 Sunday of the Word of God). And He assures us, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life” (John 6:54).
As we celebrate the 2024 Sunday of the Word of God on Sunday, January 21, during this time of Eucharistic Renewal, we also celebrate God’s gift of eternal life given to us in Jesus Christ.
Let us stay close to Jesus in His Words and the Eucharist.
