The theme for the Sixth Sunday of the Word of God, January 26, in this Jubilee Year, is: “I hope in your word” (Ps. 119:74). (N.B. On the liturgical calendar, January 26 is the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time.)
God’s Word gives life. At the moment of creation, God spoke and all things came to be (Genesis, Chapter 1). Jesus, the Incarnate Word of God, tells us, “I am the life” (John 14:6).
God’s Word came to live among us to reveal God’s life and glory. Thus, the Gospel according to John proclaims, “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
In the Incarnation, the Word of God, who is God’s only Son, “gave us the power to become children of God” (John 1:12).
Consequently, now, as children of God, our hope is in God’s Word, who continues to dwell among us.
