SUE Province Scholarships: The Murray Awards

The 2025 Murray Awards

By Fr. Richard Alejunas, SDB, Province Treasurer

(New Rochelle, NY – June 11) – In 2015, the Salesian Society, the Province of St. Philip the Apostle, established the “Ruth & James Murray Endowment.” At the behest of the Murray Estate, awards are granted as direct financial aid to graduates of Salesian high schools who will attend “an accredited college or school to further their academic, vocational, and/or technical education; the candidate must be a U.S. citizen.”

The application process is simple: local directors send a letter to the province economer's office with the name and mailing address of the recent alumnus stating that he/she is in financial need. Included with the letter are proof of the person's graduation from one of our high schools, current registration in college/technical school, and receipts/copies of the students’ out-of-pocket costs. The deadline for this school year was April 1, 2025.

Each of the recipients of the 2025 Murray Awards, listed below, received a $2,000 grant. Congratulations!

Evan Anderson, Archbishop Shaw High School, Marrero, LA
Kilas Francis, Archbishop Shaw High School, LA
Jude Monaco, Archbishop Shaw High School, LA
Gavin Morales, Archbishop Shaw High School, LA
James Nero, Archbishop Shaw High School, LA
