Ramsey: Don Bosco Prep Students Receive Sacraments

Salesians Baptism

By Jennifer Passerino, P’15, ’20, Director of Events & Public Relations, Don Bosco Prep, Ramsey, NJ

Don Bosco Prep (DBP) is proud to have celebrated a Mass of Baptism and the First Communion of Max Choi ’21 and Edward DeBruyn ’21; and Reception into the Catholic Church and the First Communion of Zachary Harding ’21 on Saturday, February 6. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Sasika Lokuhettige, SDB and concelebrated by members of the DBP Salesian Community.

Max, Edward, and Zachary stood with their godparents as the assembly joined in prayer for the candidates with the Litany of Saints.

Edward chose John Forsatz ’21 as proxy for one of his godparents, while Max chose Erich Sanders ’21 as one of his godparents. The boys renounced sin, professed their faith, and then were baptized. They were anointed with chrism by Fr. Tom Dunne, SDB. The godparents then lit the baptismal candles from the Easter candle and presented them to Max and Edward.

Zachary Harding was then invited to make the profession of faith with his godparents by his side. All three candidates then made their first communion during the Mass.

A Church that evangelizes is one of the pillars of our Salesian educational setting, the Oratory. There is no greater joy than seeing our young people deepening their friendship with Jesus. Although not specifically a parish, which is the common venue for sacramental preparation, in the spirit of Don Bosco, students who desire the sacraments are able to be prepared and then celebrate within our community. The students were prepared by Fr. Sasika and Fr. Tom throughout this past year.
