In November, St. John Bosco Parish’s youth representatives went on pilgrimage to the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Indianapolis, IN. The parish’s representatives included altar servers, youth group members, lectors, and volunteers. We were 19 people on a long drive from New York to Indianapolis. Although the drive was a difficult one due to the weather, it was well worth it.

Our young people felt so thrilled to see Pope Leo on a live video call, where he answered questions from some youth representatives and advised them on how to be better disciples of Jesus Christ. Praying during adoration and participating at Mass with thousands of people their age was an eye-opening experience for these young people, too. They were also excited to see Sr. Elfie Del Rosario, FMA, who taught some of them in grade school, as the MC of the event. But don’t just take my word; instead, listen to their reactions:

My trip to NCYC was the most incredible experience I ever had. I felt the Holy Spirit so strongly as we adored and praised God alongside thousands of other youths, and it made me realize how large the Church really is, and how God is still working in every one of our lives. I liked the speakers and adoration the most. After this trip, I feel so inspired to live out my faith stronger and spread it with everyone I can.

I was really moved by the strong sense of shared purpose and community among everyone [at the NCYC]. The workshops and main sessions provided me with an opportunity to reflect deeply and engage in meaningful conversations with people from diverse backgrounds. I left feeling more connected and inspired by empathy and understanding within my own community.

I absolutely loved my trip to NCYC, and it left me feeling deeply connected to God in a way I’ll never forget. Being surrounded by thousands of high schoolers who shared the same faith made the whole experience incredibly powerful and meaningful. One of the most amazing moments was getting to virtually meet the Pope. It felt truly special to be part of something so inspiring.

I couldn’t be prouder of my parishioners at St. John Bosco Parish. These kids fundraised for weeks to afford their tickets, and our parish and community were very generous to help support them on this trip and on their faith journey. These young people have also committed themselves to give back to their parish and their families the best they can and to encourage their peers to live out their faith.
