Port Chester: St. John Bosco Parish Celebrates Our Lady of Aparecida

Port Chester Our Lady of Aparecida Feast

By Fr. Eddie Chincha, SDB, CYM, St. John Bosco Parish

(Port Chester, N.Y. – October 21) – Last Monday, October 12, St. John Bosco Parish celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Aparecida with the Brazilian community at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. It was a long, beautiful Mass that featured the parish children’s reenactment of the story of how three fishermen caught a small, headless terracotta statue of the Virgin Mary, followed shortly by its head, while fishing in the Paraíba River. Afterwards, the fishermen found an abundance of fish.

Fr. Andre Neuhaus, SDB, was the main celebrant, along with vice provincial and St. John Bosco Parish’s pastor Fr. Franco Pinto, and Fr. Piotr Basista. After Mass, attendees were given a nice dinner.

St. John Bosco Parish has a weekly Mass in Portuguese; this community is very lively and devout. They meet for breakfast after Mass on Sundays and support the town with many charitable works, too.
