Port Chester: St. John Bosco Parish Celebrates El Senor De Esquipulas

By Fr. Eddie Chincha, SDB, CYM, St. John Bosco Parish

(Port Chester, NY – January 28) – Two Sundays ago, on January 18, St. John Bosco Parish celebrated the feast of El Señor de Esquipulas, the most important religious festivity in Guatemala and Central America.

Faith in this image of Jesus, carved in dark wood, has been attributed to the Lord granting people many miraculous healings and other graces. Hence, it is a huge pilgrimage site in Guatemala.

Many of St. John Bosco Parish’s parishioners have Central American roots, and they have added this celebration to the parish’s rich array of devotions.

St. John Bosco Parish had a small outdoor procession, a solemn Mass, and a music and food festival afterwards.

Our parishioners feel very grateful that their traditions are supported, and they make a great effort to pass them on to our young people, who consequently are growing up in a strong religious environment.
