New Rochelle: Community Day 2024

By Fr. Mike Mendl, SDB

(New Rochelle, NY – June 5) – The provincial residence’s community day celebration took place from Sunday, May 26, through Monday, May 27. It included dinner at 25 North, Mamaroneck, which included a little farewell to our outgoing director, Fr. Tim Ploch, on Sunday evening.

It also featured an optional outing to Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Monday morning (Memorial Day) to the Church of the Transfiguration, our first SDB parish in the Eastern USA (1902-1949; it was preceded by two parishes in San Francisco and possibly a parish in Oakland, CA, also 1902). Afterward, the confreres stopped for lunch in Little Italy and embarked on a tour of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. There were hundreds of tourists from around the world on those streets. The SDBs’ tour group at the museum included a family from London, a couple from Ottawa, and a pair of Australians who now reside in London.
