My Pro-Life Journey

Rosemary Tirone Pro Life

By Rosemary Tirone, Parishioner, St. John Bosco Parish, Port Chester, NY

At Our Lady of the Rosary (now part of St. John Bosco Parish) in Port Chester, NY, Fr. Peter Galsomino displayed concern for the unborn in every Sunday homily. No one would ever forget when he showed us the frog in the jar of water. At times, we thought, “If Port Chester citizens could close down the Diamond Club, why couldn’t we stop abortions at United Hospital?”

During one 10:15 AM Mass, George Muto introduced his fifth daughter and shared interested in establishing a group. He asked for help, and I signed up. As a result, Life Chain was born. We meet monthly on the third Sunday from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM across from United Hospital, in the shopping mall at the crossroads of I-95 and I-287. We have pro-life signs with telephone numbers to get help and literature at the ready. In addition, we smile and nod as the cars go by or stop at the red light.

Holy Rosary took all its religious education eighth-graders to the March for Life in Washington, DC. Along with her two young sons, Theresa Bunapartis served hot cocoa before the early morning start. She truly does so much to help post-abortion families.

National Night of Prayer for Life consisted of four hours of intense prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Together, we prayed for pregnant women to make the right choices and for our nation’s leaders to recognize the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.

The Westchester-Putnam Right to Life Committee holds monthly meetings and gives so much to the community. Some examples of their services include providing baby showers and directions to events and aiding with financial assistance, situations, and people. The committee also holds 40 Days for Life in front of abortion clinics, as well as rallies to New York City, Albany, and Washington DC.
