Five Young Adults Discern as SLMs

potential Salesian Lay Missioners

By Adam Rudin

(New Rochelle, NY – June 5) – On May 31, five new candidates for the Salesian Lay Missioner (SLM) program arrived in New Rochelle for a discernment retreat. The weekend included talks given by Sr. Denise Sickinger, FMA, Brs. Branden Gordon and Dan Glass, and a panel of returned SLMs: Grace Anderson (Cambodia), Megan Schneider (Bolivia), and Analese Snyder (Cambodia). The weekend gives candidates the opportunity to learn more about the Salesian charism and more specifics about the SLM program to help them discern whether the program is a good fit.

The candidates in attendance were Matthew Beers (Orlando), Mary Funk (Gaithersburg, MD), Abbie Nolan (Mahopac, NY), Josephine Rajasegera (New York, NY), and Jackie Rivas-Tejada (Our Lady of the Valley, Orange, NJ).
