East Boston: Tis the Season at the Club

East Boston: Tis The Season at the Club 2025

By Bro. Bob Metell, SDB

(East Boston, MA – December 3) – In November, the Salesian Boys and Girls Club (the Club) had its Annual Pasta and Meatball Dinner. It was catered by Sammy Carlo’s Deli, which is a block away from the club. This year, we served over 250 meals to hungry Club members and their families, as well as our neighbors and local supporters.

A few days later, the Club celebrated its Annual Boys and Girls Club Thanksgiving Dinner with the staff and Club members.

December is also filled with many activities and festivities. In December, we honor Mary in a special way. December 8 marks both the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and Don Bosco’s beginning of the Oratory and and his work for youngsters, which began with a simple catechism lesson to a troubled teen, Bart Garelli. On December 12 we honor Mary under the titles of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of the Americas. Like Mary’s appearing to Don Bosco, a simple, poor farm boy, she chose to appear to Juan Diego, an indigenous man. Mary reaches out to all of us in many ways and titles, but the most important one is as a caring mother who hears and listens to the cries and pleas of her children.
