East Boston: Salesian Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament a Success

Salesian News East Boston Golf Tournament

By Anita M. Belmonte, Director of Development, Salesian Boys & Girls Club

On Monday, September 21, the Salesian Boys & Girls Club of East Boston hosted their second Annual Swing FORE Kids Golf Tournament at the Winthrop Golf Club in Winthrop, MA. The tournament was a success, and we raised over $13,000.

We were blessed with perfect weather as 56 golfers came out to raise money for our kids.  It was our pleasure to welcome them all, including eight Dom Savio Prep and Savio Prep alumni to the event. The morning began with breakfast before a shotgun start. Tournament participants competed in hole-in-one, longest drive, and Monte Carlo contests as they enjoyed hot dogs and beverages that were delivered while on the green adding to our guests’ fun experience. The day ended with a delicious buffet luncheon served outside on the grounds followed by awards and raffle prizes.

Congratulations to the winners. Thank you to Fr. Jack Janko, SDB, Director of Salesian Community, for helping out at the breakfast table and for volunteering his grilling skills.  We also extend a special thank you to the golfers, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and the Winthrop Golf Club, who all helped make the Golf Tournament an exciting and successful fundraising event.

The money raised will be used to fund the new remote learning and weekly dinner programs that have been helping families during the pandemic.
