East Boston: Feast of the Assumption

East Boston: Feast of the Assumption

By Br. Bob Metell, SDB

(East Boston, MA – August 21) – Whew! This summer has flown by like a comet! Where has all the time gone? It’s hard to believe half of August is over, and this is our last week of summer camp! Our regular afterschool program begins in a few weeks.

This past week, we celebrated Don Bosco’s birthday and the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. Don Bosco started his work with a simple Hail Mary with young Bart Garelli. In honor of Mary during our Summer Camp Faith Time sessions, Fr. Ken put together a short prayer service. We began with a short cartoon about the Assumption, which was followed by a cartoon explanation of the Hail Mary. Fr. Ken briefly reflected on Mary’s role in our life. The service ended with Hail Holy Queen from the movie Sister Act. Everyone received a Kit Kat candy treat.

We look forward to autumn and the beautiful autumn colors. Let these remind us of all the great things God has provided us over the summer.
