East Boston: Club Holds 2026 Winter Vacation Camp

East Boston Winter Vacation Camp

By Bro. Bob Metell, SDB

(East Boston, MA – February 25) – Thanks to Mother Nature, we had a four-day week! The blizzard of 2026 brought me back to my childhood memories of winters that dropped tons of snow on Cape Cod.

Last week, the Salesian Boys and Girls Club held its 2026 winter vacation camp, which was filled with fun activities and field trips. This year, we had 50 campers.

While the Club's vacation camps are open to all of East Boston's youth, they are offered primarily to serve our Club members and summer camp campers. The program offers special games, competitions, and contests with prizes, usually ice cream, popcorn, candy, or a popsicle.

Don Bosco said, “The Oratory is a playground where the youth can play, have fun, and forge bonds of friendship.” In the spirit of the playground, I would like to highlight one sample event, which was a scavenger hunt held on Friday, February 20. The staff hid clues and hints around the Club. The participants were divided into teams. Each team had to find the clues and answer a question. The team with the most points won a prize; if the points were close, every participant received an award.

Games, contests, and team events are designed to teach Club members teamwork, leadership, and good sportsmanship. These activities are also opportunities to make new friends and strengthen bonds of existing friendships.
