East Boston: Club Celebrates Annual Pasta Dinner

East Boston: Pasta Dinner and Advent 2024

By Bro. Bob Metell, SDB

(East Boston, MA – December 11) – Late last month, the Salesian Boys and Girls Club celebrated its annual pasta dinner. It is a yearly event that provides a time for the East Boston neighborhood to come and enjoy a delicious pasta dinner, win some raffle prizes, and meet club members and staff. A volunteer team of club members came together as greeters, welcoming guests and bringing them into the club’s snack area. A group of club members waited at the tables and served the meals. There was a wide range of raffle prizes for adults and youth.

The pasta dinner is more than a fund-raising event; it provides an opportunity for families to come together and greet one another. At the Club, our primary focus is Don Bosco’s family spirit. We attempt to make the majority of our fundraising events opportunities to build a community spirit and provide families with time to relax and enjoy each other.

We are now in the second week of Advent, a time of preparation for the the arrival of the Christ Child. As we prepare for Christmas, let us not forget the less fortunate. Christ came as a “beacon of hope and light.” In the craziness of the world that at times seems to be "hopeless and dark," let us be beacons of light and hope to each other.
