Dom Savio Alumni Reunion

Dom Savio Reunion

By Fr. Mike Mendl, SDB

(East Boston, MA – July 23) – Usually twice a year, members of the Class of 1977 of St. Dominic Savio High School (Dom Savio) in East Boston, Mass., get together informally for a classy dinner and a lot of reminiscing—anywhere from 12 to 20 of them. They've been doing this for many years and think it's probably unique among the alumni of U.S. Salesian schools.

The alumni met up again on Thursday, July 17, at Cafe Escadrille in Burlington, Mass., a Boston suburb. On this occasion, 12 members of the class took part; it had numbered 73 graduates, of whom several are now deceased.

They were joined that evening by their former freshman dean, Fr. Mike Mendl, who was in practical training back then and who now and then makes the trek to Boston to see them.

All of them are proud of their connection to Savio, which was closed in 1993, and deeply appreciate the education they received and the friendships they formed there, including with many Salesians.
