Come and See Weekend Chicago

Come And See Weekend Chicago

By Fr. Steve DeMaio, SDB, Province Vocation Director

(New Rochelle, NY – November 6) – Over the weekend of Friday, October 18, through Sunday, October 20, the Salesian community of Chicago at St. John Bosco-St. James Parish welcomed six young men for a Come and See discernment retreat. It was a beautiful weekend of prayer, community, and participation in community life.

The young men helped out with the Friday night and Saturday oratory at the Valdocco Center and had various moments for reflection and small group discussions. We are grateful to Fr. Dave Sajdak and the community for their presence and hospitality. We also express our appreciation, in a special way, to Fr Jim Berning, the local vocation contact, for his organization of the weekend.

We speak often of creating a vocation culture. The community in Chicago is a great witness of intentional invitation and creating spaces for young adults to participate in and experience the Salesian life. God is definitely on the move there!

The next official Come and See Weekend will be in Orange, NJ, during the weekend of November 15-17. Please think about inviting some young men.

Also, the men’s pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago is May 15-24, 2025. Please invite young men over 18 whom you think would be interested in participating. We are trying to finalize registration this month.

Questions? Please contact the province vocation office.
