(New Rochelle, NY – October 23) – The Salesian Leadership Retreat (SLR) took place at the Don Bosco Retreat Center in Haverstraw-Stony Point, NY, October 4-10. Sixteen young team leaders gathered with nine young adult and adult core team members and were later joined by 81 youth participants and adult chaperones for this retreat. Guilherme Lopes and Victoria Weekley, both from the province youth ministry office, served as program director and program coordinator, respectively. Fr. Abraham Feliciano served as chaplain.
As always, the retreat theme was centered on Don Bosco’s Oratory in a way that nourished spiritual and personal growth through dialogue, activities, formation, and prayer.
The extraordinary missionary month of October was marked by the presence of Bro. Robert Malusa, a missionary from our province currently serving in Zambia. Bro. Malusa was invited to attend the retreat for two days in order to give witness to his missionary vocation.
This program marked the first time that a student from Cristo Rey Tampa, which now has its first class of 12th graders, was able to serve as a leadership retreat young team member. This retreat also saw local works provide adults to serve as retreat core team members for the first time. It was a great blessing to the participants to be guided by the leadership and example of George Janvier from Salesian High School, New Rochelle, and Carlos Lucito from Archbishop Shaw High School, Marrero, on the core team.
